UPDATE- Oct 5, 6:00 AM RCMP have arrested the subject of a heavy police presence near the east end of downtown Monday morning.

Cpl. Dana Napier says 25-year-old Tristan Fernandez was taken into custody at about 11:30 a.m. with the help of a police service dog.

An officer had reported seeing Fernandez enter the Canada’s Best Value Inn, formerly known as the Acadian Inn, earlier in the day.

An arrest warrant was issued for Fernandez after a robbery on August 3 that took place near the 1300-block of Battle Street.

Napier says Fernandez will remain in custody pending his next court appearance.

Meanwhile, RCMP says there’s no further risk to the public after police came out in force at Motel 6 in Valleyview about the same time.

A nearby daycare was put on hold and secure because of the heavy police show of force and an abundance of caution. An update on the situation is expected today. Apparently, several people were taken into custody.

No word yet on whether the two incidents might be related.
