Drone show replacing Canada Day fireworks display in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — The sky above Kamloops will still be lit up on Canada Day but the noise pollution will be drastically down.
The City of Kamloops announced it will host its first drone show at dusk on July 1. In a news release issued Tuesday (June 25), the city says the show will include 200 drones with a Canada Day theme, weather pending. Residents are encouraged to watch the drone show from the Rivers Trail in Riverside Park.
The drone show will replace the Canada Day fireworks display. It comes one week after Kamloops Fire Rescue announced it would not be issuing fireworks permits this summer.
The city’s Canada Day festivities at Riverside Park begins with the Lions Club pancake breakfast from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and is followed with the multicultural flag parade at the Rotary Bandshell. The parade begins at 10:45 a.m. and is followed by drums at 11:00 a.m. and the opening ceremony from 11:10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
