Three wildfires ignite north of Paul Lake, two suspected to be lightning-caused

KAMLOOPS — A trio of wildfires ignited north of Paul Lake Wednesday (July 12).

According to the BC Wildfire Service’s online dashboard as of Thursday morning, the 10-hectare Upper Cold Creek wildfire and the 0.5-hectare Lower Cold Creek wildfire are suspected to be caused by lightning. Further northeast, the cause of the 1.5-hectare Devick Lake wildfire is under investigation.

Elsewhere, a spot-sized fire just west of Sun Peaks is no longer listed as active on the dashboard.

A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect for Kamloops and surrounding area Wednesday. According to Environment Canada’s Thursday morning forecast, Kamloops is expected to see a small chance of showers with a risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon.
