KAMLOOPS — RCMP confirm a device that was discovered in a quiet Aberdeen neighbourhood Monday evening (July 3) was a pipe bomb.

In a news release, detachment spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says a ‘suspicious package’ was discovered at about 7:35 p.m. Monday in the 900-block of Greystone Crescent.

The first officers on the scene identified what they believed to be a homemade explosive device.

RCMP cordoned off the road and established a perimeter, though nearby residents were not required to leave their homes.

“Earlier (Tuesday), the RCMP Explosive Device Unit attended the area, examined the package, and confirmed it was indeed a pipe bomb,” said Evelyn. “They were able to safely remove the device and the area has since reopened to the public.”

Police are now looking for anyone who may have relevant security camera or dashcam footage. Those with relevant information are asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2023-23584.

“Perhaps someone was walking by and looked like they dropped a bag or another item; maybe a vehicle was parked in the area that could be related — any information available that hasn’t already been provided could be helpful in furthering the investigation,” said Evelyn.
