COLLINS: Will we let Trump win?

Jul 31, 2025 | 6:00 AM

“I WOULDN’T TRUST DONALD TRUMP as far as I can throw him.” And those words from Ontario Premier Doug Ford were never more accurate.

While we are trying to hold on against increasing pressure, Trump is working hard to strangle us. He yearns to force us to capitulate and sign a trade deal that will prove favorable only to the U.S.

Canada is in a bit of a bind because Premier Ford’s words are right on point. You can’t trust Trump.

Canada has a chance to break away from American dominance, but do we have the resolve to withstand the Trump Tornado? By providing alternatives to dealing with the U.S. and working on a united front, we might survive, but are we prepared to take the short-term economic hit while new plans and partnerships are developed? Can the struggling forest industry survive yet another blow as Trump hits us with another round of tariffs? Our future might well hang in the balance.

We are not yet able to go it alone. It would take a few years to reach that goal. We have talked a lot about standing up to our enemies. Are we going to be able to do that? As they say, “the proof is in the pudding.” We’ll see what kinds of cooks we are.

I’m Doug Collins and that’s One Man’s Opinion.
