KAMLOOPS — In what is set to be the 26th annual Boogie the Bridge, Kamloopsians are preparing themselves for the single day event. With 10 days remaining, some runners have been preparing weeks in advance.

“We meet at a different location every week,” fifth-year participant Kayla Pepper told CFJC Today. “Leading up to Boogie there’s a training program for those who have goal races typically boogie the bridge itself with a 5k distance, the 10k distance and even some here are training for the 21k.”

Another participant who has been preparing for the marathon is Kevin Zhang who’s entering his third Boogie. Leading up to the event, his main training goal is to run at a consistent pace.

“The big thing right now is just focusing on consistency,” said Zhang. “Trying to build back that in again to where I’m consistently running the same time frames, I’m trying to stick with the group but also trying to help develop some of my teammates on here as well too.”

Founder Jo Berry told CFJC Today that this year’s chairty will be Western Canada Theatre. Throughout the years, Boogie the Bridge has raised more than $1.2 million for local charities. Berry praises the group who work behind the scenes as a reason behind the success.

“We work 10 months of the year and I’m just one spoke in that amazing cog of people and it gives us so much joy to present those cheques,” Berry told CFJC Today. “We haven’t been able to do that the last couple of years so we were really excited about being able to pass over a cheque to help kids,”

Boogie the Bridge will kick off on April 23 at 8:30 a.m. with the marathon’s starting point at Riverside Park.
