Stankoven’s 5 point night leads to Blazers domination in Game 1 over Giants
KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers were flying with colours on opening night of the WHL playoffs, defeating the Vancouver Giants in game one 8-0 on Friday (Mar.31) at Sandman Centre.
Early in the first, a penalty by the Giants leads to captain Logan Stankoven drawing first blood on the powerplay to put the Blazers up 1-0 at 2:08. Just four minutes later, The Blazers would score another goal thanks to Emmitt Finnie with his first of the post season to make it 2-0. That was the two of a four goal performance by Kamloops in the first period, with Stankoven scoring two of those to put his club in the driver’s seat.
In the second period, it’s Ryan Hofer’s time to get on the scoreboard as he also tallies his first of the post season to make it 5-0 Blazers. Two minutes later, Caedan Bankier would give the Blazers their sixth goal of the night on the powerplay. Logan Stankoven would complete the playoff hat-trick on another powerplay goal to make it a 7-0 lead.
Ashton Ferster would score the eighth and final goal of the night for the Blazers as they take a 1-0 series lead against the Giants. Kamloops outshot the Giants 53-15 in the contest.
