ALS Golf Tournament of Hope returns to Rivershore in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — The ALS Society of British Columbia held its 2022 Golf Tournament of Hope Friday (Sept. 8) out at Rivershore Golf Course. It’s the 14th annual tournament held in Kamloops to help raise awareness and funding for the society.
Over the 14 years of the event, it has raised over $100,000 to support patient services at ALS B.C. It also funds state-of-the-art communication devices for those living with ALS
“ALS stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and what happens is the brain and the motor neurons in our spinal cord stop communicating to the sensory muscles in our body. When that happens, a person slowly becomes paralyzed. Unfortunately, at this time we don’t have an effected treatment. Life expectancy is 2-to-5 years (after diagnosis),” said Wendy Toyer, ALS Society of B.C. Executive Director.
