KAMLOOPS — It’s been a week of firsts for the Kamloops NorthPaws.

Kamloops’ West Coast League (WCL) baseball team had its first rain postponement, first home game, and first win in its first season. Now, the NorthPaws can add their first double header and series sweep.

The NorthPaws played a double header with the Edmonton Riverhawks on Thursday (June 2) to make up for the rainout two days prior. While the games were supposed to be seven innings instead of the traditional nine, fans at Norbrock Stadium still got 18 innings over two games thanks to two extra inning affairs.

The NorthPaws beat the Riverhawks 4-3 in the 10th inning in the afternoon game with Felix Chenier Rondeau hitting a walk off home run.

In the evening game, the NorthPaws only needed eight innings to win 1-0. Riverhawks pitcher Heath Hachkowski hit two NorthPaws with pitches to put runners on first and second base. A wild pitch from Hachkowski allowed Daniel Martin to advance to third before Dylan Zavala was able to drive home the winning run.

The NorthPaws are 3-0 to start the WCL season. They are first in the North Division standings and are the only remaining undefeated team in the WCL.

The NorthPaws travel to Washington State Friday (June 3) to play a three-game series with the Port Angeles Lefties.
