KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say some of the laptops taken from Parkcrest Elementary School students have been recovered.

A total of 54 Chromebooks were taken earlier this month in two separate break-ins at the school, which is temporarily operating out of the former George Hilliard school location on Holt Street. Initial reports had the theft total at 30 Chromebooks.

In a news release, RCMP say an officer was tipped off to the location of some of the stolen items last Friday (Jan. 21). The officer subsequently found 21 of the Chromebooks in a plastic bin sitting in a North Shore parking lot.

Thirty-three laptops remain outstanding, along with six iPads, a camcorder and other electronics.

“Obviously, whoever broke in and stole from a school knew they were stealing from kids,” said Cst. Crystal Evelyn, spokesperson for Kamloops RCMP. “It’s important that anyone who knows who has the outstanding items or who is responsible for the break-ins does the right thing and contacts police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information on the break-ins or the locations of the remaining electronics is urged to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and quote file numbers 2022-431 or 2022-1025.
