Kamloops RCMP, health and family services rescue baby taken from hospital ‘against medical advice’
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say a young infant who was taken from hospital against medical advice has been rescued by authorities.
In a news release, spokesperson Cst. Crystal Evelyn says police were informed of the incident at about 2:00 a.m. Wednesday (Apr. 14). The caller noted the infant had been taken from the hospital “against medical advice related to the baby’s survival.”
RCMP teamed up with health and family services personnel to locate and stop the vehicle, secure the baby and provide medical assistance before B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics arrived to take over.
“Thanks to the partnerships between police and those in both the health and family services sectors, including BC Emergency Health Services, the newborn was located and safely returned to the medical facility, as required to help assist in the infant’s survival,” said Evelyn. “At last check, the baby was in stable condition and the appropriate family supports were engaged.”
