VANCOUVER — B.C. is reporting 514 new cases of COVID-19 Friday (Jan. 29), including 71 within Interior Health.

The new information came in a briefing led by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

That brings the total found in British Columbia since the pandemic began to 66,779, spread through the province as follows:

  • 15,321 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 134)
  • 40,284 — Fraser Health (up by 223)
  • 1,596 — Island Health (up by 29)
  • 6,151 — Interior Health (up by 71)
  • 3,391 — Northern Health (up by 57)
  • 141 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry reported 4,557 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Friday, up 102 from Thursday. There are 292 people in hospital, with 74 in critical or intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 1,026 active cases of the virus, down by three from Thursday. Forty-six people are hospitalized regionally, with 16 in critical care.

Five more people have died of the virus, lifting the provincial death toll to 1,189. None of the deaths took place in Interior Health, leaving the regional death toll at 69.

At least 7,000 people are under active public health monitoring due to direct exposure to COVID-19. The number is not precise as there are data irregularities coming from Northern Health.

A total of 59,551 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 89 per cent of all recorded cases.

Meantime, Henry reported all long-term care residents and their caregivers have been offered COVID-19 vaccination. Henry said uptake is very high.
