B.C. averages 448 new COVID-19 cases per day over the weekend; 234 cases found in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. saw an average of 448 new cases of COVID-19 per day over the past three days, according to an update from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

In her Monday (Jan. 25) update, Henry reported 527 new cases on Saturday, 471 cases on Sunday and 346 on Monday. That totals to 1,344 total new cases, including 234 in Interior Health.

The new cases bring B.C.’s total to 64,828, spread through the province as follows:

  • 14,774 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 314)
  • 39,464 — Fraser Health (up by 618)
  • 1,471 — Island Health (up by 73)
  • 5,873 — Interior Health (up by 234)
  • 3,213 — Northern Health (up by 104)
  • 138 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

Henry says there are 4,392 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Monday, down by 87 from Friday. Of the active cases, 328 are in hospital with 68 in critical or intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 1,034 active cases, down 64 from Friday. Fifty of those cases are in hospital, with 11 in critical care.

Twenty-six more people have died of the virus, raising B.C.’s death toll to 1,154. Three of those deaths took place within Interior Health. The regional death toll is now 62.

At least 6,607 are being actively monitored because they had direct contact with COVID-19-positive individuals.

The number of those considered fully recovered has reached 57,831, or 89 per cent of all recorded cases.
