Province reports 564 new COVID-19 cases, warns of community cluster in Williams Lake

VICTORIA — A community cluster of COVID-19 cases in and around Williams Lake has drawn the attention of Public Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

In her written statement Thursday (Jan. 21), Henry notes the surge in cases in the Williams Lake region. She reminds residents to “pay close attention to how they are feeling and to immediately arrange to get tested if they are feeling unwell with symptoms of COVID-19.”

Meantime, Henry reported 564 new cases of the virus in B.C. Thursday, including 95 found within Interior Health.

The new cases swell B.C.’s overall case count to 62,976, spread through the province thusly:

  • 14,328 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 111)
  • 38,618 — Fraser Health (up by 234)
  • 1,385 — Island Health (up by 47)
  • 5,560 — Interior Health (up by 95)
  • 3,054 — Northern Health (up by 76)
  • 136 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

There are 4,450 active cases in B.C. Thursday, up by 105 from Wednesday. Henry reports 309 people in hospital and 68 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 1,098 active cases, up by 31 from Wednesday. There are 32 people hospitalized and seven in critical care.

Fifteen more people have died of COVID-19, raising the province’s death toll to 1,119. Two of the deaths were recorded in Interior Health, pushing the regional death toll to 57.

A total of 6,816 people are under active public health monitoring after being exposed to COVID-19-positive individuals.

The number of those considered fully recovered from the virus has reached 56,010, or 89 per cent of all known cases.

Henry says 104,901 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to British Columbians, 1,680 of which are second doses.
