B.C. COVID-19 case count grows by 711; 11 new deaths Friday

VICTORIA — B.C. health officials are reporting 711 new cases of COVID-19 in the province Friday, including 81 discovered within Interior Health.

The numbers come as part of a news release from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

The new cases swell the provincial case count to 36,132 since the pandemic began, spread through B.C. as follows:

  • 9,421 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 143)
  • 22,899 — Fraser Health (up by 427)
  • 679 — Island Health (up by 10)
  • 2,062 — Interior Health (up by 81)
  • 978 — Northern Health (up by 50)
  • 95 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry reports 9,050 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Friday, with 338 patients in hospital including 76 in intensive care.

In Interior Health, there are 633 active cases with 16 people in hospital and four in intensive care.

There were 11 more deaths, raising the B.C. death toll to 492.

A total of 10,957 people are under active public health monitoring because they have been exposed to known COVID-19 cases.

The number of people considered fully recovered from COVID-19 is now 25,658, or 71 per cent of all recorded cases.

Interior Health updated the Revelstoke cluster to 49 cases, with 23 active and 26 considered recovered.

IH officials say the outbreak at Mountainview Village in Kelowna has grown to four, with a third staff member testing positive.
