Twelve more British Columbians die of COVID-19; 834 new cases found Wednesday

VICTORIA — The province has seen another 12 deaths from COVID-19.

The detail was provided as part of a news conference held Wednesday (Dec. 2) by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, who also reported 834 new cases of the virus in B.C., including 66 within Interior Health.

The new cases bring the provincial total to 34,728 since the pandemic arrived in B.C., spread out as follows:

  • 9,164 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 174)
  • 22,007 — Fraser Health (up by 529)
  • 659 — Island Health (up by 20)
  • 1,899 — Interior Health (up by 66)
  • 905 — Northern Health (up by 45)
  • 95 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

Henry says there are 8,941 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., with 337 patients in hospital including 79 people in critical or intensive care.

Interior Health reports 570 active cases, with 18 people in hospital but no one in critical or intensive care.

The dozen additional deaths bring the province’s death toll from the virus to 469.

Henry says there are 10,201 people under active public health monitoring due to exposure to known COVID-19 cases.

A total of 24,424 people have been deemed fully recovered from the virus, or 70 per cent of all recorded cases.
