COVID-19 death toll in B.C. jumps by 46 over the weekend; 212 more cases found in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. has recorded a shocking 46 more deaths due to COVID-19 over the past three days, spiking the province’s death toll from the virus to 441.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry was emotional as she reported the deaths Monday (Nov. 30). Henry said about 80 per cent of those deaths took place in long-term care settings.

The province added 2,364 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend – 750 on Saturday, 731 on Sunday and 596 on Monday. A total of 212 cases were found within Interior Health.

Henry notes an earlier reporting discrepancy in Fraser Health has been resolved, resulting in 277 new cases added to that health authority’s totals. Those cases were found between November 18 and 26.

B.C. has recorded 33,238 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic arrived in the province, spread out as follows:

  • 8,853 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 371)
  • 21,070 — Fraser Health (up by 1,365 on the weekend + 277 from resolved data discrepancy)
  • 629 — Island Health (up by 58)
  • 1,750 — Interior Health (up by 212)
  • 845 — Northern Health (up by 73)
  • 95 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

Henry reported 8,855 active cases of the virus Monday, with 316 people in hospital and 75 in critical or intensive care.

Interior Health reports 490 active cases of COVID19, with 15 people in hospital including five in ICU.

There are 10,139 people under active public health monitoring because they have come into contact with known COVID-19 cases.

A total of 23,111 people have been declared fully recovered, or 70 per cent of all known cases.
