Daily B.C. COVID-19 case count eclipses 600 for the first time; Interior Health sees 42 new cases

VICTORIA — B.C. has set another daily record with its COVID-19 case count.

In a news release, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says 617 new cases of the virus were recorded Friday (Nov. 13) Forty-two of the new cases were found within Interior Health, however IH notes only 31 of those cases were actually recorded Friday. It notes the other 11 were from Thursday, but were left out Thursday due to a reporting error.

The new cases bring the provincial total to 20,985 since the pandemic began, spread through B.C. thusly:

  • 6,239 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 130)
  • 12,814 — Fraser Health (up by 424)
  • 340 — Island Health (up by 16)
  • 1,001 — Interior Health (up by 42)
  • 505 — Northern Health (up by 5)
  • 90 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

As of Friday, there are 5,579 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., including 167 people in hospital and 50 in intensive care.

In Interior Health, there are 173 active cases, including one person in intensive care.

Two more people have died of the virus, bringing the provincial death toll to 290.

The total number of people under active public health monitoring is 12,016.

There are 14,901 people considered fully recovered from the virus, or 71 per cent of all recorded cases.

A new COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Belgo unit at Sun Pointe Village, a long-term care facility in Kelowna. IH says one staff person has tested positive for the virus and no residents have tested positive or are experiencing symptoms.
