B.C. records 525 new COVID-19 cases, active cases eclipse 5,000

VICTORIA — For the first time, there are more than 5,000 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C.

The information is contained in Tuesday’s (Nov. 10) update from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Henry says 525 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded Tuesday, including 27 within Interior Health.

That brings the total number of cases seen in B.C. since the pandemic began to 19,239, spread through the province as follows:

  • 5,860 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 159)
  • 11,582 — Fraser Health (up by 325)
  • 308 — Island Health (up by 7)
  • 922 — Interior Health (up by 27)
  • 477 — Northern Health (up by 7)
  • 90 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are now 5,133 active cases of the virus in the province, including 142 people who are in hospital and 46 in intensive care.

In Interior Health, there are 146 active cases and one person in hospital.

IH says there is one more case linked to the outbreak at the Royal Inland Hospital Patient Care Tower project, bringing the total there to eight.

Three more people have died of COVID-19, bringing the provincial death toll to 284.

A total of 9,781 people are under active public health monitoring because they have come into contact with known COVID-19 cases.

The number of those considered fully recovered has reached 13,704, or 71 per cent of all recorded cases.
