B.C. surpasses 10,000 COVID-19 cases with 110 new cases; zero in Interior Health

VICTORIA — The province has passed a dubious milestone with 110 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday (Oct. 8).

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says B.C. has now surpassed 10,000 total cases, with 10,066 recorded cases of the virus since the pandemic began.

There were no new cases recorded in Interior Health Thursday.

The 10,066 recorded cases have been spread through B.C. as follows:

  • 3,693 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 49)
  • 5,174 — Fraser Health (up by 55)
  • 223 — Island Health (up by 1)
  • 557 — Interior Health (unchanged)
  • 330 — Northern Health (up by 5)
  • 89 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are now 1,394 active cases in B.C., including 76 patients in hospital, 17 of whom are in either intensive or critical care.

Interior Health says there are 23 active cases within the health region, including one person in hospital.

One more person has died of COVID-19, an individual in Vancouver Coastal Health. The death toll from the virus is now 245 in B.C.

Henry says there are 3,139 people under active public health monitoring due to exposure to known cases.

A total of 8,398 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 83 per cent of all recorded cases.
