B.C. reports 267 new cases of COVID-19 over three days, nine new cases in Interior

VICTORIA — British Columbia is reporting 267 new cases of COVID-19 over the past three days – an average of 89 cases per day.

The new figures came via a news conference held by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, who reported 68 new cases on Saturday (Sept. 26), 125 cases on Sunday and 74 on Monday.

Nine of the new cases were found in Interior Health and ten of the new cases are epidemiologically linked to known COVID-19 cases.

The new cases bring the province’s total to 8,908 since the pandemic began, spread through B.C. as follows:

  • 3,226 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 99)
  • 4,555 — Fraser Health (up by 143)
  • 206 — Island Health (up by 2)
  • 531 — Interior Health (up by 9)
  • 303 — Northern Health (up by 14)
  • 87 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

The number of active cases has decreased since Friday to 1,302. Sixty-nine of those people are hospitalized, including 32 in Vancouver Coastal, 30 in Fraser Health, five in Northern Health, one in Interior Health and one who normally resides outside of Canada. Twenty-two of those hospitalized are in intensive care or critical care.

Interior Health says there are 28 active cases within the health region.

Three more people have died of COVID-19 — one each in Vancouver Coastal, Fraser Health and Island Health. There have been 233 total deaths from COVID-19 in B.C.

The total of those under active public health monitoring due to COVID-19 exposure is now 3,372.

There are 7,346 people who are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 82 per cent.

Dr. Henry confirmed a new outbreak within Interior Health, at Calvary Chapel Kelowna. The outbreak involves five cases as of Monday.
