Province sees 366 new COVID-19 cases, four deaths over three-day stretch

VICTORIA — The province’s chief health officer says details on how B.C. can hold a safe election during a pandemic will come out Tuesday.

That’s when Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Chief Electoral Officer Anton Boegman will brief the public. Premier John Horgan announced the election Monday morning (Sept. 21).

Meantime, Dr. Henry announced 366 new cases of COVID-19 in the province over the past three days — 121 on Saturday, 117 on Sunday and 128 on Monday. Seven of those cases are epidemiologically linked to known COVID-19 cases.

There have been a total of 8,208 cases of the virus in the province since the pandemic arrived in B.C., spread through the province as follows:

  • 2,945 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 128)
  • 4,211 — Fraser Health (up by 204)
  • 203 — Island Health (up by 7)
  • 508 — Interior Health (up by 16)
  • 255 — Northern Health (up by 11)
  • 86 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are now nearly 2,000 active cases in the province — 1,987 — with 60 patients in hospital and 21 in critical care or intensive care.

Interior Health reports 34 active cases including one person in hospital.

There have been four more deaths from COVID-19 in B.C. — two in Vancouver Coastal, one in Fraser Health and one in Northern Health. The four more deaths bring the death toll in B.C. to 227.

A total of 3,233 people are now under public health monitoring due to exposures to known cases of the virus.

There are now 5,972 people who are considered fully recovered, or 73 per cent of all recorded cases.
