Turtle Valley biosolid opposition headed for Kamloops courtroom

KAMLOOPS — The group opposing City of Kamloops biosolids being deposited in Turtle Valley will bring their cause to the courts next week.

Today (May 30), protestors once again vocalized their opposition from Kamloops city hall.

Uneasy about whether the material is safe to be in that area, some Turtle Valley residents, such as Connie Seaward, are pushing for further testing.

“So if it comes back and it’s worse than what they’re saying, well then they need to have proper safeguards put into place, and the regulations need to change to adjust for a Class B biosolid with those contaminants in it.”

The City has contracted Arrow Transportation to bring the biosolids to a property in Turtle Valley, just outside of Chase.

After protestors blocked road access to the drop off site, Arrow filed an injunction to prevent the roadblocks, which went into effect May 18.

Since then, another group set up near the entrance to the property, and an Arrow spokesperson tells CFJC Today they have given the demonstrators the information they requested around the project.

Starting next week, Seaward and the rest of the group will be in court for a suit filed against Arrow Transportation.

“And again, we’re seeking our water testing, and our Class B biosolid testing. And we also have an opinion of an independent hydro-geologist.”

For now, Arrow says it has not been taking biosolids to Turtle Valley, but will start delivery again soon.
