Weekend heat unlikely to set records in Kamloops: Environment Canada

May 10, 2019 | 11:17 AM

KAMLOOPS — The heat and sunshine will continue for the next few days in the B.C. Interior, but Environment Canada says we shouldn’t expect too many temperature records to fall.

Forecaster Bobby Sekhon says the summer-like conditions are forecast through the weekend.

“That trend should continue into the weekend with temperatures in the upper 20s,” said Sekhon. “However, Sunday night is when the pattern will start to shift to a slightly cooler pattern and the possibility of some showers.”

Sekhon predicts temperatures may top 30 degrees Celsius Friday and Saturday, but that doesn’t mean they will approach records.

“We are not going to be hitting a lot of records likely in the Southern Interior,” said Sekhon. “However, places like Penticton and Summerland, they’ll be very close to their records. Other places may be a degree or two off.

“Lots of places in the South Coast hit records (Thursday), including Vancouver Island as well. For southern B.C., it has been a warm stretch. Just for the Interior, it takes exceptionally high temperatures to break records.”
