Carjacking suspects arrested in the Cariboo

100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — Two people allegedly involved in a car-jacking incident in the Cariboo this week have been arrested.

RCMP Cpl. Chris Manseau says the incident occurred last Sunday (March 10) when police received a report of a collision and carjacking just north of Lac La Hache.

He says a grey Hyundai Elantra, which was found to be stolen out of the Kelowna area, was reported to be driving erratically and was witnessed to have struck at least two vehicles, including a Subaru Forester belonging to a resident of Lac La Hache.

“The male driver of the Elantra met with the female driver of the Subaru and removed the keys from her person by force,” Manseau says.

“The male driver and female passenger then moved themselves to the Subaru and fled northbound. Witnesses had stopped to assist the female driver and others reported the incident to police via 911 calls. Fortunately, the female driver was not injured during the robbery.”

Shortly thereafter, he says police came across the Subaru heading southbound into 100 Mile House. A male and female passenger out of Kelowna were taken into custody after a high-risk takedown was completed on the highway.

“These two suspects are believed to be associated to a number of events in Kelowna, Kamloops and Merritt,” Manseau says. “100 Mile House RCMP notes there is no further risk to the public as a result of these incidents.”
