Leadership change to Kamloops Airport

KAMLOOPS — A long-time Kamloops resident with a lengthy past in aviation will take over as managing director of YKA.

In a news release, Vantage Airport Group says Kamloops Airport’s current managing director, Heather McCarley, has accepted the role of director of operations at the company’s corporate office in Vancouver.

McCarley assumed the role in September 2017 after Fred Legace’s departure. She previously spent 22 years at YVR, and will stay in Kamloops through early March, when Ed Ratuski will assume the role.

Ratuski is a long-time Kamloops resident with more than 25 years in aviation, according to the release. He served as airport operations manager at Fulton Field from 2010 to 2016. Most recently, Ratuski was a member of the operations team at LaGuardia Gateway Partners — the organization that is redeveloping a terminal at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

The change in leadership comes after a record year for Kamloops Airport, largely driven by seasonal service to Toronto.

“The Kamloops Airport Authority Society and the City of Kamloops want to recognize the impressive accomplishments of the Kamloops Airport under the leadership of Heather McCarley,” Mayor Ken Christian says in a news release. “And we couldn’t be more delighted by the return of Ed Ratuski, who we worked very closely with prior to his move to LaGuardia.”

“It’s been a tremendous pleasure to be part of both the dedicated Kamloops Airport team and the entire Kamloops community,” said McCarley. “I look forward to remaining connected to the airport in my new operations role at Vantage Airport Group.”
