Moose Jaw takes advantage of Blazers self inflicted wounds for 5-2 win

KAMLOOPS — With a majority of home games in their remaining schedule the Blazers are looking for some home cooking to get them back in the wild card.

But the menu failed to serve up a win in their return home after an unsuccessful four game road trip, with a 5-2 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors at the Sandman Centre.

Tristan Langan got the visitors going with his 33rd of the season, set up after a Blazers turnover. Just over three minutes later Connor Zary would feed Brodi Stuart in front to tie it 1-1. But Moose Jaw would take back the lead on a power play goal by Justin Almeida midway through the first. And on a beauty tic-tac-toe play Deniil Stepanov gives the Warriors a two goal lead after the first period.

There was only one goal in the second, and it was by the Blazers. Jermaine Loewen, where he’s most effective in front of the net, scored his fourth goal in three games and 15th of the season to make it 3-2 after 40 minutes. Loewen’s goal gave the Blazers some momentum which they carried into the third.

Dylan Garand, who had replaced Dylan Ferguson in net after the first, kept the Warriors off the scoresheet until late in the third, when Moose Jaw pulled away with two goals in under two and a half minutes with under five minutes left.

Another turnover set up Justin Almeida for an unassisted goal and his second of the game. Almeida would pick up his fourth point of the night with an assist on the Warriors fifth goal, scored by Dalton Hamaliuk on the power play. The Blazers drop their fifth in a row, in a 5-2 loss.

Highly-rated prospect Logan Stankoven played his second career game with the Blazers. Stankoven had some quality shifts on a line with Josh Pillar and Kyrell Sopotyk, creating a scoring chance before Moose Jaw scored the final two goals to put it out of reach.

The 15-year old scoring leader in the B.C. Major Midget League was held off the scoresheet, but that will come on another day, and not too soon for the Blazers.
