Sunday snowfall to make way for warmer temperatures later this week in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — The worst is over when it comes to snow for Kamloopsians — except if you plan on driving the Coquihalla Highway.

According to Environment Canada, 0.4 centimetres of snow accumulated at Kamloops Airport, though much more fell at higher elevations including 10 centimetres at Helmer Lake and 15 centimetres on the Coquihalla summit.

So, why the sudden burst of winter?

“Well, we had a low pressure system basically cross the Southern Interior yesterday,” says Meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau. “It has now moved to the southeast and it’s pulling out of the province and basically everything is tapering off behind it now.”

She says Kamloops is unlikely to see any more snow with temperatures expected to start rising on Wednesday.
