B.C.’s electricity usage increases during Earth Hour

KAMLOOPS — A spokesperson for BC Hydro says the province’s electricity usage actually went up for Earth Hour this year.

Susie Rieder says the province increased its electricity use by 0.2 per cent over the same hour last week.

She says participation in the event has been declining.

“We have noticed that participation has been declining over the past few years in Earth Hour,” Rieder said. “So, the increase in electricity use is probably due to that decline in participation, and also colder weather in most parts of the province this weekend as compared to last.”
