FERNIE —  A B-C town has earmarked 50-thousand dollars to assess its arena following a deadly ammonia leak in a neighbouring municipality.

City councillors in Kimberley voted this week to hire a professional to study the condition of the Marysville Arena and Civic Centre.

Fernie Memorial Arena in Fernie has been closed since October after two city workers and a contractor from Calgary were killed by ammonia gas while working on the rink’s refrigeration unit.

The R-C-M-P and Work-Safe-BC, the organization that investigates workplace accidents, have not publicly updated their investigations of the leak. (CHBZ)
