KAMLOOPS — With snow on the ground greeting many Kamloops residents as they woke up this morning, RCMP are reminding commuters to adjust their driving behaviour.

Corporal Jodi Shelkie says it's not as easy as it might seem.

"I say It's like getting your sea-legs when you go on a boat. You often don't realize how hard it is to walk on a boat, until you are there. Same thing when the snow comes, drivers don't realize just how different the driving conditions are," stated Shelkie.

Shelkie says the top three tips for drivers are to stay alert, slow down and stay in control.

She adds it's always important to prepare your vehicle before you get behind the wheel, by clearing off snow and ice, topping up washer fluid and ensuring the top half of your fuel tank is full.

"Right now, people should have put on their winter tires. The air pressure in tires changes throughout the winter; it decreases when it's cold out. So remember to frequently check your tire air pressure."
