Aberdeen Association presents their findings on proposed Ajax mine

KAMLOOPS — The Aberdeen Neighbourhood Association has reviewed KGHM Ajax’s 18 thousand page application to the BC Environmental Assessment Office. 

An 11-member committee presented their findings at a public meeting held last night, April 26.

Committee chair, Randy Sunderman, says they weren’t satisfied by the information the mining company provided in that document. 

“There was more research that could be done with regards to pointing out what their findings really were, how their findings were being made,” said Sunderman, who added “with property values, we had a number of concerns on how it was scoped, and how they carried forward their assessment to make the determinations that they did make.” 

Air quality, and slope stability were other issues addressed by the Aberdeen Neighbourhood Association. 

Sunderman says the committee has submitted their findings to the BC Environmental Assessment Office as well as the federal EAO. 

He anticipates the issues they have raised will be given due consideration.
