DWC volunteer group hikes Africa’s tallest mountain

KILIMANJARO, Tanzania — The Kamloops “Kili Crew” consisting of 18 hikers climbed Africa’s tallest mountain this week.

Organized by Developing World Connections in Kamloops, the group also raised over 90-thousand dollars which will help build schools in Sierra Leone which were stalled during the Ebola outbreak.

Volunteer Doug Wittal says 17 of the 18 members made it to the top.

He describes the hike up Mt Kilimanjaro as one of the most grueling hikes in terms of mental capacity and physical ability.

TRU’s VP of Advancement Christopher Seguin also took part in the 8 day climb and says he can equate the pain level to an Iron Man triathlon.

Some group members are heading backing to Kamloops today while others are continuing their adventures elsewhere.
