KAMLOOPS — Up to 200 gallons of diesel fuel leaked into a ditch last night when a semi trailer hit a no-post at the Lafarge intersection with the Trans Canada Highway east of town.

When the semi hit the no-post, it ruptured the saddle tanks, creating the spill of anywhere from 100-200 gallons. Fortunately, KFR officials said the fuel went into a ditch and there was no environmental damage caused by the leaking fuel.

The Ministry of Environment attended and was apparently satisfied that there were no problems with fuel leaking into the South Thompson River and there were no storm sewer systems nearby.

Sand was spread over the spill to absorb it, and cleanup action will continue this morning. It’s not known if there were any injuries in the mishap. The incident happened around 7:00 PM Tuesday evening.
