KSAR still searching for permanent facility

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Search & Rescue members are still out on a different kind of search (compared to their usual call outs) — looking for a new permanent facility.

Search Manager Alan Hobler says the hunt for a home base for the organization is still ongoing. 

“We’re still out there looking. We’re knocking on lots of doors,” He says, “We definitely have a couple irons in the fire right now too but at this time, nothing concrete.”

Hobler says they’re looking for a facility that would be around 6500 square feet with enough indoor space to store vehicles, snowmobiles, and equipment.

“Ideally in town somewhere. Because when we respond to a call, all of our members have to drive from their homes, and then once we get to the hall we have to drive from there,” He explains, “So the more central the better, and ideally close to a highway as well.”

While the search for a building continues, KSAR will also be starting their general training for new volunteers in two weeks time. 

“Its going to take 3 months to get them fully trained, but it’s really exciting and we’re looking forward to working with these new volunteers.”
