Blazers rookie head coach looking forward to his first teddy bear toss on Saturday

KAMLOOPS — It’s going to be a busy weekend for the Kamloops Blazers, on and off the ice, hosting Saskatoon on Friday night on Food Bank Night and then Seattle on Saturday for the annual Teddy Bear Toss game.
It’s the 26th annual teddy bear toss in Kamloops, a concept that originated with the Blazers in 1993 with then marketing director Don Larson. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to the game that will be tossed on the ice when the Blazers score their first goal against the Thunderbirds or following the final buzzer if the team is shut out.
It will be his first teddy bear toss experience for first-year Blazers coach Serge Lajoie, but he also knows it’s important to this community.
“I’m looking forward to it. I think it creates a bit of a buzz. I don’t want the players to put any pressure on themselves to change their game. Through the process, I’m sure we’ll create some really good opportunities to score that goal, maybe get that teddy bear toss out of the way,” says Lajoie. “But I think it’s a great event. It shows a lot of community support, community initiative to help those less fortunate.”
