Junior Blazers lose 5-4 to Seafair in Western Canadian opener
KAMLOOPS — The Western Canadian Bantam AAA Championship opener between the Thompson Junior Blazers and Seafair played out just like the two regular season games, a tight affair but ultimately a Seafair victory.
The Junior Blazers gave up two goals in the third period to lose 5-4 in the tournament opener on Thursday afternoon. The Islanders defeated the Thompson Junior Blazers 3-1 on Oct. 7 and 3-2 and Feb. 10.
In Thursday afternoon’s tilt, Kamloops opened the scoring with a goal by first-year bantam Carter Streek who scored in close to make it 1-0 for the hosts. The B.C. champions tied the game with 3:44 left in the opening frame. Michael Abfrall evened the game. Then with 48 seconds left in the first, Seafair took the lead on a goal by Davis Sato.
