Trans Canada re-opens near Lytton, northbound Coquihalla remains closed

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE (7:10 a.m.): According to Drive BC, the Trans Canada has re-opened to single lane, alternating traffic east of Lytton.

Drivers are advised to expect delays of up to 20 minutes.

EARLIER: While roads are a little slick in Kamloops this morning, the situation is much more serious on outlying highways.

A weekend snowstorm lingered overnight and into this morning, leaving highways between Kamloops and the Lower Mainland slippery and snow-covered.

The Trans Canada is closed in both directions just east of Lytton because of a crash.

Drive BC says officials are not yet sure when that route will re-open.

The southbound Coquihalla was closed overnight between Merritt and Hope after a crash near the Coldwater Interchange, but that route has since re-opened.

However, the northbound lanes are blocked just south of Merritt because of a rock slide.

Professionals are assessing the slide site, but that route is expected to remain closed for most of the morning at least.
