Operation Red Nose wraps up 20th year

KAMLOOPS — As New Years Eve approaches, so does the end of another year for Operation Red Nose. The service has helped get hundreds of Kamloops revellers home safely this holiday season, but their busiest night of the year is still ahead.

2016 marked the 20th year in operation for the volunteer designated driving service. It also saw Operation Red Nose add Thursday nights to their usual Friday and Saturday schedule.

“We did have a record weekend, where we provided the most rides ever, in a weekend,” Klassen told CFJC Today. “Donations have been up as well, so it’s been a great campaign for us.”

Despite the increased demand for Operation Red Nose, Katie Klassen says the response from volunteers has been awesome throughout the campaign.

Saturday night will be a busy one throughout the city, as hundreds of residents ring in the new year. Traditionally, New Years Eve is the busiest night Red Nose sees throughout the holidays, so they’re asking patrons to remain patient while waiting for a safe ride home.
