Avril Lavigne releases new song and video

Avril Lavigne and Nicki Minaj have teamed up on a new track called “Dumb Blonde.”

The collaboration, which is featured on Avril’s upcoming album Head Above Water, was released on Tuesday. “I ain’t no dumb blonde / I ain’t no stupid Barbie doll,” Avril sings on the song, which was co-written by Bonnie McKee. “I am the prototype, the pinkprint / And no, I don’t want no frauds, wink, wink,” Nicki raps.

“@NickiMinaj is my favorite!!! I’ve been listening to her for so long,” Lavigne tweeted ahead of the drop. “As soon as I recorded #DumbBlonde, I knew she’d be the perfect artist to collaborate with on it. When she said yes it was like a dream come true!!!”

Minaj also revealed that she is a longtime fan of Avril’s music. “I used to drive to my job [at] Red Lobster playing this woman’s album for an hour straight everyday for months,” Minaj tweeted. “Crying to ‘I’m with you’, blasting ‘complicated’ ‘things I’ll never say’ ‘nobody’s fool’ ‘sk8er boi’. omg. #DumbBlonde tmrw. This woman is so unbelievably talented.”

“Dumb Blonde” follows the release of title track “Head Above Water” and “Tell Me It’s Over” as the third release from Lavigne’s forthcoming sixth studio album – her first since being diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2014.
