Kevin Hart Steps Down

Dec 7, 2018 | 5:30 AM

Last night (December 6th), Kevin Hart announced that he will no longer be hosting the Oscars next year after receiving backlash for some “insensitive” tweets he posted from 2010 and 2011 . The comedian was being criticized for reportedly deleting the tweets and refused to apologize. One alleged tweet from 2011 read, “Yo if my son comes home & try’s 2 play with my daughters doll house I’m going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice ‘stop that’s gay’.”

Kevin initially responded in an Instagram video saying that he has grown and is not the same person he was eight years ago. He said, “I swear man, our world is becoming beyond crazy. …Guys, I’m almost 40 years old. If you don’t believe that people don’t change, grow and evolve as they get older, I don’t know what to tell you.”

He continued,If you wanna hold people in a position where they always have to justify and explain their past, do you! I’m the wrong guy, man. I’m in a great place … all I do is spread positivity. If you’re not doing that, you’re not on my page.”

KEVIN SAYS THE OSCARS GAVE HIM AN ULTIMATUM

A couple of hours after Kevin released the video on Instagram, he released another one saying that the Academy gave him an ultimatum. He explained via IG, So I just got a call from the Academy and that call basically said apologize for your tweets of old or we’re gonna have to move on and find another host. I chose to pass. I passed on the apology. “

He continued, “The reason why I passed because I’ve addressed it several times … I’m not gonna continue to go back and tap into the days of old when I moved on and I’m in a completely different space in my life. …I’m not gonna do it man. … Regardless, Academy I’m appreciate of the opportunity and if it goes away, no harm no foul.”

KEVIN STEPS DOWN

At around midnight, Kevin released a statement saying that he will no longer be hosting the show. He said, “I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”

He continued, “I’m sorry that I hurt people.. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again.”
