The New Royal Couple At Work

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are in full royal mode as they turn out for their first official public appearance after their wedding.

On Tuesday, three days after tying the knot, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle turned up to honor Prince Charles on his 70thbirthday at a garden party held at Buckingham Palace.

  • As social media noted, Meghan traded in her “messy bun” for a polished side chignon (a la Kate Middleton). She also wore a pale pink-and-taupe number from Goat with a matching pink hat.

GUESTS CASH IN

  • Meanwhile, some of the 1,200 members of the public who were invited to attend the royal wedding are selling the commemorative gift bags they were given online.
  • The gift bags were filled with the usual wedding bag goodies: gold-wrapped chocolate coins bearing their initials, shortbread, a coupon to a local store, a magnet with their wedding date and a water bottle.
  • Prices range from $150 to $1200 and they’re going fast!

BISHOP SPEAKS OUT

  • Bishop Michael Bruce Curry, who spoke passionately about the power of love during their ceremony at St. George’s Chapel on Saturday, appeared on Good Morning America (and several other media outlets) Tuesday, and admitted that he was shocked when he was invited to speak at their wedding.
  • “It was the decision of the couple, but they were in consultation both with the Archbishop of Canterbury and with the Dean of St. George’s and I’m sure others as well,” he recounted to Good Morning America, adding, “I got a phone call, and I didn’t believe it, because a member of my staff called and said, ‘They’d like you to preach at the royal wedding,’ and I said, ‘Get out of here it’s April Fools. You’ve got to be kidding me.’ And it was actually true.”
  • At one point in the ceremony, he quoted Martin Luther King Jr., saying: “We must discover the power of love, the redemptive power of love. And when we do that, we will be able to make of this old world a new world. Love is the only way.”
  • His sermon went viral, as did the responses of the attendees. Kate Middleton threw some major side eye and Zara Tindall just straight-up dropped her jaw.
  • “When I sat down from the sermon I remember thinking to myself, ‘I hope that was okay,’ ” Curry told Good Morning Britain, also admitting on Today that he was “a little bit nervous.”
  • He said he has a lot of hope for the impact Harry and Meghan have, telling Good Morning America: “the love between those two people, between that royal couple, was so powerful not only did we all show up, but it brought all these different worlds together.”
