BILLY CRUDUP OPENS UP ABOUT LIVING LIKE A MONK: While performing Harry Clarke on off-Broadway, the Tony-winning Billy Crudup has to play a whopping 19 characters, many at the same time. “The actor part in me that really likes teamwork, talking and listening, is really invested in those things,” Crudup tells The Hollywood Reporter of the weird collaborative process he’s had had to take on. “I know it sounds a little ridiculous sometimes, but I do try to take the time to talk and listen to each of those characters.” So how does he do it? “I am a monk in this show. Because I’m working to the full extent of my vocal range, I can’t use my voice very much during the day to have all the range I need that night. My life has been somewhat compromised in the performing of Harry Clarke, but it’s a great luxury at the same time to have an excuse to focus your life so clearly on one thing. With that being said, living with a 14-year-old son, you can only do that so much. They don’t give a rat’s a** about the performance. He’s on spring break right now, so we’re ending up doing a lot of extracurricular activities.” Crudup will return to the silver screen opposite Cate Blanchett and Kristen Wiig in Richard Linklater’s Where’d You Go, Bernadette, based on Maria Semple‘s bestselling novel later this year.

MY COUSIN RACHEL DIRECTOR BOARDS LITTLE DARLINGS: Roger Michel and producer Kevin Loader are partnering under their Free Range Films banner to adapt the forthcoming novel Little Darlings. The Notting Hill and My Cousin Rachel director will write and helm the adaptation, while Loader will produce. Little Darlings is a much-buzzed-about debut novel by Melanie Golding and it documents the stark loneliness and increasing desperation in the traumatic five-week period following the difficult birth of her twins. Golding’s agent, Madeleine Milburn, said, “Melanie is a hugely talented debut author with a profound ability to grip and unsettle her readers. Combine this with the creative power that is Free Range Films, and I am in no doubt that the adaptation will be a tour de force. I couldn’t be happier, or more excited, for Melanie.”
