Fire at Tournament Inn damages two units

KAMLOOPS — This story has been updated here.

Two units damaged by fire, one seriously, at the Tournament Inn in Valleyview last night.

The fire looks like it started on the outside of one of the units, spread into the eaves and into the unit itself.

When Kamloops Fire and Rescue got there, just after 8:40 PM, Platoon Captain Daryl Cooper said there was dark smoke and flames showing.

The fire spread into another unit before crews were able to knock it down.

Cooper says the unit where the fire started was unoccupied, but there were two guests in the second unit. Both were able to get out unharmed.

Two additional guests were asked to leave their nearby room as a safety precaution. Cooper says those folks will probably be able to return later today.

No cause indicated as yet, but Cooper says initial reports indicate it was human-caused.

Investigators will be back at the scene today, and RCMP have also been called in to have a look.
