RCMP investigating two shootings in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Editor’s Note: This story has been updated with the latest information here.

UPDATE: 9:55 a.m. — Kamloops RCMP have confirmed they are investigating a pair of shootings Wednesday morning, but they can’t be certain the incidents are related.

At 6:50 a.m., police were called the Super 8 motel in the 2400-block of East Trans Canada Highway in Valleyview.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says a man was found lying on the ground, apparently suffering from a gun shot wound.

He was taken to hospital.

Investigators remain on the scene at that motel.

Then at 8:50 a.m., officers were called to the Comfort Inn and Suites on Rogers Way in Aberdeen, where they found another man who appeared to have been shot.

He was also taken to hospital for treatment.

Shelkie says it’s unknown how serious the injuries are to either man.

No suspects in the shootings have been identified as yet, and RCMP say they aren’t sure the shootings are related.

Shelkie describes the situation as “very dynamic.”

Royal Inland Hospital has been placed on enhanced security measures, but Shelkie says that may be unrelated to the first two shootings.

UPDATE: 9:30 a.m. — A major RCMP investigation is unfolding in Kamloops Wednesday morning.

RCMP have cordoned off the area around a Valleyview motel this morning.

Cruisers have blocked off the East Trans Canada Highway frontage road in the 2400-block, in front of the Super 8 motel.

Police tape surrounds the property.

Meantime, a series of police cruisers have responded to a hotel in Aberdeen, off of Rogers Place.

And Royal Inland Hospital’s emergency department has been placed on restricted access.

Interior Health spokesperson Susan Duncan says the enhanced security protocol has been put in place due to an RCMP investigation “unrelated to the hospital itself.”

Duncan says the protocol is meant as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of patients and staff.

The ER is still open, but the public should expect additional security measures when they arrive.

CFJC Today has yet to hear from Kamloops RCMP as to what their investigations entail.
