LILLOOET — RCMP have determined that a recent death near Seton Portage was a homicide.

In a release, the RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit and Lillooet RCMP say they are continuing their investigation into the death of Patrick (Zube) Aylward.

Investigators have confirmed that his death was a homicide and have set up a tipline for the suspicious death, which occured at a home on Highline Road, Anderson Lake (Seton Portage) this past weekend.

Police say a forensic autopsy for the deceased man, now confirmed to be 71-year-old Patrick (Zube) Aylward, was completed on October 18, 2018.

The RCMP are aware of numerous rumours about Mr. Aylward’s death, circulating around the communities of Seton Portage, D’Arcy, Pemberton and Whistler.

The investigation to date leads investigators to believe that Mr. Aylward’s death was a targeted and isolated incident so there is no safety risk for others in the community.

To protect the integrity of the investigation the cause of Mr. Aylward’s death will not be released.

Investigators are still interested in speaking to anyone who travelled Highline Road during the late evening of Friday October 12, and early morning of Saturday October 13, stated Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

The RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit have activated a dedicated tip line for the investigation into Mr. Aylward’s murder and ask anyone with information to call, at 1 (877) 987-8477.
