KAMLOOPS — Cannabis legalization day is upon us, and if you’re planning on hopping on a flight with some recreational pot, you’ll want to educate yourself first.

Heather McCarley is the managing director of the Kamloops Airport, and she says it’s the passenger’s responsibility to learn the laws of the province that you are visiting before flying in with marijuana on you.

“As of Oct. 17, on their website, (the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority) has advised that passengers can travel with a legal amount of cannabis either in your carry on or checked bags,” McCarley says.

Information isn’t clear yet on how much marijuana is a legal amount to take with you on a domestic flight, but according to the federal government’s Department of Justice website, an adult can possess up to 30 grams of legal, dried cannabis in public, and share up to 30 grams of legal cannabis with other adults.
