KAMLOOPS — It’s official.

Kamloops City Councillor Arjun Singh has been named president of the Union of B.C. Municipalities at its annual convention in Whistler.

He went into the convention as first vice-president and will serve one year in the top role.

“It’s a huge honour obviously to be involved with UBCM just generally speaking and to become president is just a pretty incredible honour,” Singh told CFJC Today. “And I’m looking forward to working with the province and the federal government on local issues over the next year.”

He says his biggest priority moving forward will be getting re-elected as city councillor in Kamloops and says there will be plenty of provincial issues to tackle after that.

“Cannabis revenue sharing, housing, Indigenous affairs, economic development. It really runs the whole gamut of issues.”

And while there will be a lot more on his plate the next year, Singh says issues in Kamloops will remain top of mind.

“My commitment is very strong to Kamloops and I’m only able to do this job because I’m a Kamloops city councillor first. So, I’m really, really making sure that I’m as attentive and present in Kamloops as I’ve ever been and even more so if I can.”
