KAMLOOPS — A woman in the South Thompson River this afternoon was refusing rescue for a time, but is safe now.

The call came in to 9-1-1 at about 4:15 p.m., with the caller saying a woman was in the river near the Red Bridge, and her safety was unclear.

RCMP and Kamloops Fire Rescue responded, and when rescuers tossed the woman a lifeline, she refused it.

Police eventually convinced her to swim to shore, where she was being assessed by rescuers.
