BC Wildfire Service battling 473 wildfires province-wide

KAMLOOPS — Wildfires continue to rage in BC.

According to the latest numbers from the BC Wildfire Service, there are now 473 wildfires burning province-wide – including 31 fires of note.

One of those fires of note is the Gottfiedsen Mountain fire about 24 kilometres west of West kelowna and about 8 kilometres north of Highway 97.

That blaze is now estimated at 550 hectares in size and has prompted an evacation alert of Electoral Area M in the Thompson Nicola Regional Disrict.

The TNRD also has issued an evacuation alert for Electoral Area E northwest of Young Lake. Four properties along the Bonaparte Young Lake Forest Service Road are affected.

Fire Information Officer Ryan Turcot says wildfires are dispersed across the province though the Kamloops and Northwest fire centres are seeing the brunt of the activity right now.

Nearby in the Cariboo Fire Centre, the 200 hectare Lang Lake wildfire in the 100 Mile Fire zone has put roughly 400 properites under an evacaution alert.

Another fire southwest of Springhouse has prompted another alert for 186 properties for an area from Mayfield Lake north to Buckley Drive and west to the Fraser River.

At 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, the TNRD also issued an evacuation alert for Electoral Area E due to the 1,400 hectare Wild Goose Lake wildfire in the South Cariboo.

One more fire causing concern is the 400 hectare fire east of 70 Mile House.
